Roblox Open Beta Now Live on App Lab

UPDATE July 27, 2023:

The Roblox open beta on App Lab has arrived! Now, people ages 13+ can start to explore the wide variety of experiences that Roblox has to offer on Meta Quest 2 and Pro—and developers can test out new experiences and optimize them for standalone VR hardware.

To get started:

Make sure your Quest 2 or Pro headset is up to date (Roblox requires v55 or higher)
Download Roblox from App Lab
Start Roblox on your headset
Sign into your existing Roblox account using the Quick Login option on your computer or phone (Note: Roblox account creation and password sign in aren’t currently supported on Quest devices)
Once you’ve installed the Roblox open beta on your headset and logged into your Roblox account, you’re ready to start exploring.

And since it’s an open beta, there are some known issues you may encounter. Rest assured: The team is actively working on them ⚒️

Buying Robux: While you can purchase items within an experience, you won’t be able to buy additional Robux from your Quest device. That said, this functionality is on the way.
Password Sign In & Account Creation: Not currently supported on Meta Quest devices. Sign into your existing Roblox account using the Quick Login option on your computer or phone.
Distorted Graphics: A rare issue where the graphics in an experience can get heavily distorted.
Recommendations: You won’t currently see personalized recommendations in the “Recommended for You” list.
Experience Rating: Up / down voting of experiences on the Experience Details page is disabled during the open beta to give developers time to adjust their games.
Graphics Performance: The Roblox team will continue optimizing performance.
Abuse Reporting: You can report abuse from the Roblox UI but not the button.

You’ve waited. And waited. And waited some more. And now we can finally share that, yes, Roblox is coming to Meta Quest, starting with an open beta hitting App Lab in the coming weeks!

On average, more than 66 million users log into Roblox every day, with a community that spans mobile devices (both iOS and Android), desktops, and Xbox, and we can’t wait to add Meta Quest 2, Quest Pro, and (coming soon) Quest 3 to the mix.

The open beta is a great opportunity for the Roblox developer community to optimize their existing games for Quest and build new ones for VR while gathering input and feedback from the Quest community. That means developers will be able to experiment, learn, and iterate on VR experiences before Roblox is ready for prime time and its full release on the Meta Quest Store.

With over 15 million active experiences and counting, Roblox will offer a vast library of content for the Quest community to explore. In fact, Roblox is automatically publishing some experiences that use default player scripts to support VR devices. They’ve found that those experiences typically run well in VR without modifications, so they’re seeding the Roblox VR library with great content from day one. And because Roblox is cross-platform, you’ll be able to connect, play, and hang out with friends across Xbox, iOS, Android, and desktop —helping to make VR more social than ever before.

Roblox on Quest will be available for people ages 13 and up. And parents can use existing Meta Quest parental supervision tools to help create a level of safety and supervision that’s right for their family.
