Until now, the VDI resources on the Internet ignore one vital aspect regarding coins – the TYPE. Type changes can be simple design changes, or they may include changes to composition, diameter, weight, or any combination thereof. Type changes can move the VDI needle drastically!!!!

With the goal of putting together the most comprehensive chart on VDI numbers, I’ve spent the last few years accumulating US coins across all denominations and types. Each coin type has been tested for VDI across a range of detectors and documented in a spreadsheet.
